Rally Dates

Some other ads have referred to Sept 1-7 as rally date: this is partially correct. Rally is Sept 1st (Larry's River, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia), Sept 2nd (Louisbourg, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia) , Sept 3rd (Edge of the Earth Gathering at Meat Cove, the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia) and then down the west side of the Cabot Trail on Sept 4th with a stop at the Glenora Distillery. When we again reach The Mainland, all riders are on their own to travel as they see fit. (you might like to check out the Labor Day Rally on Prince Edward Island) Salty Fog Riders Rally costs are minor (ie camping $10 per person on Sept 2nd and $5 per person on the 3rd). Sept 1st is free camping but $25 per person to include supper on 1st and breakfast on departure day the 2nd. (note: there are no restaurants or motels in Larry's River)

WHY? 1) If you plan to join us in Larry's River then we can plan for food etc. 2) if you do plan to come to Larry's River and/or camp at Louisbourg then we need a head count for our reservation ($10/ head) (NOTE: live theater - Spirit of the Island - is $15/; music and lots of fiddles... a musical insight into life on Cape Breton Island); and 3) Meat Cove - the Edge of the Earth Gathering - is $5.00 each for camping. Food may be available at the small canteen.

WE NEED NUMBERS BY AUGUST 25TH IN ORDER TO INSURE THAT YOU HAVE A SPOT AT YOUR CHOSEN LOCATION

REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A ROLLING RALLY AND NOT A GROUP RIDE. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO JOIN US AT ANY POINT BUT BE SURE TO LET US KNOW WHERE SO THAT WE CAN BOOK YOU IN.

In August of 2007, the first Salty Fog Rally began. Using Larry's River, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada as a 'home base', this rolling rally was conceived as a way to introduce motorcyclists to beautiful Guysborough County and onward to the thrills and views of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

The intent of this rally was to provide riders from any locale to either converge on Larry's River to camp and eat before moving on to the island or to join the ride as we move forward. The intent was to have a 'continuous intake' sort of model whereby riders can join or depart as they desire.

While small in number, the participants saw the value in developing this flexible model so that riders can experience the many exciting opportunities for travel not only in the Guysborough and Cape Breton regions but also throughout Nova Scotia and beyond.

The following are pictures provided by participants, especially Paul and Steve. The Salty Fog Rally was postponed in 2008 due to some accommodation challenges but we enthusiastically look forward to our 2009 Salty Fog Riders Rally!

Heading east on the Trans Canada toward Cape Breton, we exit about 33km/20mi past the town of Antigonish and ride through the tiny hamlet of Monastery.

We turned left for 45 minutes and followed the signs to Guysborough and then, on the other side of town, turned right to Larry's River. The turn is somewhat hidden and if missed the road takes you to Canso. Caution for this corner: often has gravel scattered. Salty Fog signs were posted all along the way.

The Homestead in Larry's River was still under reconstruction but served us well for this inaugural venture
